Amended AJCU-EAO Constitution and ByLaws Unanimously Approved

The twelve "principals" of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities in East Asia and Oceania (AJCU-EAO) have unanimously ratified the Constitution and By-Laws discussed during the General Assembly in Sogang University, Korea, and endorsed for ratification.  This was accomplished  through referendum completed on September 12,  2006.

The ratification amends the Constitutions and ByLaws originally approved in  Perth, Australia in August 6,2002. Some of the principal changes approved were:  (a) a streamlined text   more clearly distinguishing provisions belonging to the Constitution  and those belonging to the ByLaws;  (2) a transfer of executive  responsibility for  the  Association from the Secretary for Education of the Jesuit Conference   for East Asia and Oceania (JCEAO) to the Chair of the Board of  AJCU-EAO as  Chief Executive Officer or CEO;  (3) the recognition of  the JCEAO as a  charter member of the organization;  (4)  the creation  of the  Vice-Chair; (5) the suppression of the office of the Executive   Secretary as the secretarial functions of the association are  transferred to a  secretariat to be organized by the CEO; provision  for a Treasurer as a  nominee of the CEO to be approved by the Board.
