The participants from nine (9) universities from five (5) different countries in the East Asia region were warmly welcomed of this year's meeting of AJCU EAO International Directors held last 16-17 December 2009 at the Ateneo de Manila University.

Dr. Ma. Mercedes Rodrigo, Director of the Office of International Programs of AdMU, formally opened the meeting with her welcome remarks, followed by introductions from the participants. Sanata Dharma University (SDU) of Indonesia initiated the discussion with a report regarding their successful hosting of the Service Learning Program. They presented their process of the program as well as showed pictures and video testimonials from the participating students, all of whom gave positive feedbacks. A report and proposal from Sophia University of Japan followed, giving the Service Learning Program in 2010 an exciting twist: instead of the usual tradition of a school hosting the program in their own country, next year's SLP will be held in Thailand and Cambodia.

In the afternoon, the International Program Directors from various universities gave their updates regarding the international activities of their respective schools. After the presentations, discussions and agreements on improving collaboration were provided. It was agreed upon that the Ateneo de Davao University will host the SLP in 2011. Sogang University and the Ateneo de Manila University will draft a multilateral agreement regarding student mobility among member schools. The website will also be utilized as a resource library for research, classes, lectures, and other helpful resources. A possible joint project was also raised regarding friendly competitions (sports and/or cultural fests).

Of course, it wasn't all business! On the night of the 16th, the participants had a welcome dinner at the residence of AdMU OIP Director Dr. Ma. Mercedes Rodrigo. On the night of the 17th, Sogang University sponsored the dinner at Angel's Kitchen at San Juan. The participants also got the time to shop at the night market in Greenhills, were they witnessed the traditional "mechanical play" of the Nativity Story.

The Meeting of the OIP Directors is an annual meeting hosted by the Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines) and Sogang University (Korea) held every December to discuss updates and future actions for promoting greater collaboration among the AJCU EAO schools.
