Loyola University Chicago - Vietnam Office
Now Operational to Foster Further the Ignatian Spirit of Excellence in Asia

19 March 2009—Loyola University Chicago (LUC)  officially began its business operation in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Cardinal John Baptist Man of Saigon and Fr. Thomas Vu Quang Trung, SJ, Provincial Superior of Vietnam, were present during the blessing of the new office.

In partnership with the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training, the Loyola office in Vietnam will focus on three important areas: 1.) English as a Second Language (ESL) Education for health-care professionals, 2.) Leadership Programs for Vietnamese professionals and administrators, and 3.) Study-abroad Programs for U.S. students.

This unique collaboration is very important as the projects will provide a crucial avenue for language training (ESL Education), leadership development (Leadership Programs), as well as social and cultural exposure for the LUC student participants (Study-abroad Programs).

This great endeavor was conceived in the summer of 2007 when Fr. Michael Garanzini, SJ, President of the Loyola University Chicago, and other LUC representatives were invited by the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam to meet with the Vietnam Ministry of Education and Training. The meeting aimed to establish a fruitful partnership between the two major institutions, enabling the LUC to share its expertise to Vietnam by sponsoring specific courses.

Loyola graduate Bro. Joseph Dao, SJ has been assigned to represent the university since then. He is  currently at the helm of the Vietnam office.
